By default, exercise you log is listed in your day but does not change your calorie numbers. If you want logged exercise to give you more room, turn on net calories.
Turn net calories on or off
- Go to Account → Daily Targets.
- Under Options, switch Show net calories on or off.
You can also ask Cal to change it.
What changes when it is on
The calories burned from each exercise log are taken off what you have eaten that day.
For example, with a 2,000 kcal target, 1,800 kcal eaten and a 300 kcal workout:
| Net calories off | Net calories on | |
|---|---|---|
| Calories counted | 1,800 | 1,500 |
| Left in Chat | 200 | 500 |
The Diary dial is labelled Net Cals instead of Cals while this is on. If you burn more than you have eaten, the net figure can go below zero.
Your protein, carbs and fat targets also grow in proportion to the calories you burned, so the macro split stays the same.
What counts as exercise
Only exercise logs count. These are workouts you log with Cal or Log Exercise, and workouts synced from Apple Health or Health Connect.
Steps never change your calorie numbers. They show on their own and count towards your weekly consistency and challenges.
Tracker "total daily burn"
Watches and fitness apps often show a total for the whole day. That figure includes the energy your body uses at rest, which your calorie target already allows for. Counting it as exercise would give you those calories twice, so Cal will not log it. Cal will offer to log your individual workouts, or your tracker's active calories, instead.
What "left" means
The dials at the top of Chat show your target minus what you have counted so far today. When you go past a target, the dial shows how far over you are instead.
