CalCoach shows your daily step count from Apple Health or Health Connect. Steps count towards your step goal and towards step challenges.

Get your steps into CalCoach

  1. Go to Account → Health Data and switch on sync.
  2. Make sure the Steps switch is on.

Your steps then appear in a Steps section in your Diary, with a note comparing the day to your goal, yesterday or your weekly average. CalCoach counts each day once even when both your phone and watch record steps, using the same daily total the Health app shows.

Set your step goal

On the Health Data screen, use Daily step goal to set your target in steps of 500. It starts at 10,000.

Log steps from a screenshot

If your tracker doesn't share steps with Apple Health or Health Connect, you can log them from a screenshot.

The quickest way is to send the screenshot to Cal in chat. Cal reads the day's total and logs it for today. To log another day, say which one, for example "yesterday's steps". Cal can't log a step count you type; it needs the screenshot.

You can also log one from the Health Data screen:

  1. In Account → Health Data, tap Log steps under Log steps from a screenshot.
  2. Pick the Date.
  3. Tap Choose screenshot and pick a screenshot of the day's total from your fitness app.
  4. Check the number CalCoach read, then tap Looks right — save.

The screenshot must show a single day's total from a fitness app or device, and any date it shows must match the day you're logging. You can't log steps for a future date, and one screenshot can't be used for two different days.

A step count you log this way always takes priority. Sync won't replace it, and logging a new screenshot for the same day replaces your earlier one.

Do steps add to my calories?

No. Steps don't change your calorie numbers. Only logged exercise counts towards net calories, when Show net calories is on in Account → Daily Targets → Options. A walk that your watch records as a workout syncs as exercise, so that one does count.

Today's steps look low

CalCoach syncs when you open it, so the figure is only as fresh as your last sync. Open your tracker's app so it syncs from your watch, then return to CalCoach or tap Sync Now in Account → Health Data.
