Most conversations start with you, but Cal sometimes posts a message first. It appears in that day's chat and usually comes with a notification.
Pattern suggestions
If you have logged food regularly over the last two weeks, Cal looks for patterns and may post one suggestion, titled I spotted a pattern:
- A regular meal. "I noticed you usually have porridge for breakfast on weekdays. Want me to mark that as a regular?"
- A favourite. "I noticed you log this quite often. Want me to save it so you can log it with a single tap?"
- Out-of-date targets. If your targets were last updated more than 60 days ago and your weight has changed noticeably since, Cal offers to recalculate them.
Reply "yes" and Cal does it. Ignore the message and nothing changes.
Suggestions arrive around 10:00 or 15:00 your local time. You get at most one of each kind a week, and Cal does not repeat a suggestion it made in the last 30 days.
Other messages from Cal
Cal may occasionally send a message about your progress or the app. These only arrive between 08:00 and 21:00 your local time, and never more than three in a day.
Messages linked to your coach
If you have a coach, a check-in they schedule also appears as a card in your chat. See Check-ins from your coach.
Reminder notifications
These are notifications, not chat messages:
- Check-in reminders to log your food and exercise, at whichever of Morning (8:00 am), Midday (12:00 pm), Afternoon (4:00 pm) and Evening (8:00 pm) you switch on in Account → Notifications.
- A streak reminder at about 7:00 pm if you have a streak of 3 days or more and have not logged food that day.
Turn them off
Go to Account → Notifications and switch off Push notifications. This stops pattern suggestions and all CalCoach notifications. You may still find an occasional message from Cal in your chat when you open it.
To keep notifications but drop the logging nudges, switch off the reminder times you do not want under Check-in reminders.
