Your nutritional preferences tell Cal what suits you. Cal reads them in every chat, so suggestions, meal plans and recipes fit how you eat.

Set your preferences

  1. Go to Account → Nutritional Preferences.
  2. Fill in any of these sections:
    • Dietary Restrictions, such as Vegan, Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Keto, Gluten-Free, Halal or Kosher.
    • Allergens, such as Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Dairy, Eggs, Gluten, Shellfish, Soy, Fish or Sesame.
    • Foods to Avoid, for foods you would rather not eat but are not allergic to. Type a food and tap Add to include one that is not listed.
    • Cuisine Preferences, for the cuisines you enjoy.
    • Meals Per Day, from 2 to 5+, or IF if you do intermittent fasting.
    • Additional Notes, for anything else, such as "prefer high-protein meals".
  3. Tap Save.

You can also tell Cal in chat, for example "I've gone vegetarian" or "I'm allergic to sesame", and Cal will update them for you.

Your goal, struggle and motivation

During sign-up you may also have told us what usually gets in the way and why your goal matters to you. Cal uses these to support you, for example by referring back to your reason when it helps. They are never used to judge your choices.

It is not currently possible to change this information.

How Cal uses them

Cal sees all of these whenever it suggests meals, builds a meal plan or writes a recipe for you, so it can steer clear of what you avoid and lean towards what you enjoy.

Preferences do not change your calorie or macro targets. To change those, see Change your goal or targets.

Cal works from what you have told it, so always check labels yourself if you have a serious allergy.
