Cal needs an internet connection to reply. When you lose signal, a No internet connection banner appears at the top of the app.

Sending a message while offline

You can still type a message, with or without photos, and tap send. The message appears in the chat marked Queued · sends when you're back online.

  • When your connection returns, the message sends by itself and Cal replies as normal.
  • The queued message survives closing the app. It sends the next time you open that chat with a connection.
  • If it does not send on its own, tap Send now on the message.

Each conversation can hold one queued message. Until it sends, the message box will not send anything else in that conversation. If you have more to say, send it after the queued message has gone.

The queue is kept per conversation, so a message queued in a past day's chat sends into that day.

Voice input needs a connection. Without one, the app shows Voice input unavailable, so type instead.

If a message fails

A message can still fail after it leaves your phone, for example if the connection drops mid-reply. It is then marked Failed to send. Tap Retry to send it again.

Logging and other changes while offline

Apart from that one queued chat message, changes need a connection. While you are offline:

  • Ticking habits, logging or skipping planned meals, and saving weight, body fat and measurements are disabled until you reconnect.
  • Meal plan edits show "You're offline — changes can't be saved right now."
  • Saving a new product from the barcode scanner is blocked until you reconnect.

The simplest approach with no signal is to tell Cal everything you ate in one message. It sends and logs as soon as you are back online.
