How to log from a label

  1. Open the Chat tab.
  2. Tap the camera icon and take a photo of the nutrition information table on the pack.
  3. In the note, say how much you had. For example, "the whole pack", "half of it" or "150g".
  4. Tap send.

Cal reads the numbers from the label and logs them as printed, scaled to the amount you had. It does not swap them for a database match or an estimate.

Per serving and per 100g

Most labels print two columns. One is per 100g (or 100ml). The other is per serving or per pack. Cal reads both, so you can describe your portion either way:

  • as servings or packs ("one serving", "the whole pack", "half")
  • as a weight or volume ("150g", "250ml")

If the pack holds more than one serving, say which you mean. "The whole pack" is worked out from the pack weight printed on the label.

If you don't say how much

Cal does not guess a portion from a label, even for a single-serve pack. If your message does not say how much you had, Cal asks one question, such as "How much did you have — the whole pack?". Your answer logs it.

Tips for a clear photo

  • Fill the frame with the nutrition table.
  • Avoid glare on shiny packs.
  • If only kilojoules are printed, Cal converts them to calories.

Asking about a label

A question sent with a label ("can I fit this in today?") gets an answer, not a log. Cal checks it against what you have left for the day and offers to log it.

Correcting a label log

If a number came out wrong, tell Cal ("it's 220 kcal per pack") or send the label again after saying it was wrong. Cal corrects the existing log rather than adding a new one. See Edit or delete a log.
